Frequently Asked Questions
I signed up for camp, what do we do now?
First of all, on behalf of the UC San Diego Volleyball Camp Staff we would like to say THANK YOU for signing up for our volleyball camp. You will receive a confirmation letter with details about the camp. There are required forms which must be completed prior to the start of camp. Please complete and return the forms at your earliest convenience.
Where will my child be staying?
Our campers will be staying in Africa Hall in Eleanor Roosevelt College. This facility gives students the opportunity to interact with many new people and make new friendships. Africa hall provides apartment style living with self-contained units with kitchens, bathrooms, living areas, and combinations of two, three, or four bedrooms. All residence hall style rooms are arranged in suites of eight to eleven guests. Each residence hall building offers lounges, and some may include kitchenettes where snacks and light meals can be prepared. All on-campus housing facilities include cleaning service each week. The halls are grouped single-sex suites. A suite is typically made up of three double rooms, and two or three single rooms. Each suite shares a bathroom which contains two showers, two toilets, two sinks, mirrors and cubby holes for toiletries.
Each student is provided an extra long twin bed, a desk, chair, bookcase, closet and small drawer unit in their room. Adjoining suites share a lounge with couches, a table, a microwave and a sink. The entire house shares another, larger lounge with couches, armchairs, a coffee table, study tables, chairs and blackboards.
Students living in the residence halls are not responsible for their own housekeeping and cooking. Meals are provided for resident campers in the cafeteria. No pets are allowed in the res halls, other than fish in small tanks. All residential life policies apply.
What is the easiest airport to fly into?
UC San Diego is conveniently located 15 minutes from the San Diego International Airport. The UCSD camp staff does not provide shuttle service from and to the Airport. Transportation to and from the San Diego airport can be arranged through SuperShuttle or a local shuttle service of your choice. Reservations for SuperShuttle service can be made online here.
What should my child bring to camp? Will they have bedding? Laundry? Do they need extra cash?
UCSD Volleyball Camper Checklist
Small Workout Towel
General Toiletries (Residential Campers Only)
Showers are available to all campers, but campers must provide their own towels and soap.
Athletic Training Clothing
We recommend at least 4 pairs of shorts, 8 t-shirts, and 8 pairs of socks.
Laundry facilities are available (though free time to do laundry is limited).
Day Campers should bring a change of clothes per day.
Swimsuit and Sunscreen (optional – pool time at UCSD Canyon View Pool may be available, it is not yet final)
Money for purchasing items from the camp store (snacks, drinks, UCSD Volleyball T-Shirts and sweatshirts).
Campers also enjoy sharing a pizza with their friends and roommates from our daily PIZZA ORDER SPECIAL DELIVERY service we offer after the last session. Campers often want to purchase items from the UCSD Bookstore as well.
What happens if my child gets hurt? Do you have a trainer in the gym?
There will be an athletic trainer on site that will handle any and all medical needs for the campers. Please be sure to be as detailed as possible when filling out your campers medical form so that we may be prepared to manage your campers needs.
Who is watching them at night in the dorms? Will someone walk them over after practice at night? How far is the gym from the Dorm?
Campers are supervised at all times by UC San Diego Volleyball Camp Staff. Typically the ratio is 8 campers to 1 staff member. A staff member will be supervising the campers to and from all practices. The distance from the dorm to the gym is approximately a 10 minute walk.
